It's Not You, It's Me. Time To Break Up With Your Clothes.

swapaholic

Is your closet full of beautiful pieces that were once loved but are now a forgotten, idle occupant of your closet space?

Think of the beautiful shoes that gave you blisters with every wear or that extremely fancy dress you could have worn to MET GALA? (side note: it will be out of fashion if/when you were ever invited)

What if you could replace all of those lovely but unloved clothes with some beautiful new pieces that you’ll actually wear? We're here to help you exchange these exes with new flames. It can sometimes feel cruel and seemingly impossible, but be strong-hearted and adopt a ‘if you love ‘em let ‘em go’ policy.

Follow these easy guides to identify pieces with which it’s time to cut ties off.

1) Twinsies: Items that look the same to the outside world. Swap items in your closet that are in the same style or print.

2) Virgins: All the items that you bought and which looked good on a celebrity or the sale tag that was too tempting and felt like a steal but it doesn’t suit your unique style.

3) Ghosts: Clothes that you once loved and have nostalgic memories of but it no longer fits your evolved style. Think of that prom dress.

4) Gifts: Items that you hoard because of the sentimental value attached. Pass on these pre-loved pieces to a new wearer and give it a second life.

5) If and When: Clothes that you bought for imaginary occasions that never happen.

Now that you have decided which outfits to part ways with, proceed with few basic checks and courtesies before sending them to their new home!

Quality pieces that could be valued by others. Think it this way; if you won’t give it your friend, then it’s not swapalicious. This means clean and non- decaying items. Express your gratitude to that old outfit and wish happiness to its new wearer.

Pieces should be free of faults, stains and colour fading and if there are minor faults that someone would be happy to repair, a little tag indicating this will be courtesy (e.g. a missing button). And last,

Don't forget to clean out pockets. You don’t want to lose any valuables or IDs.

The objective of swapping clothes is not just to de-clutter and refresh your wardrobe, but to feel the happiness and liberation that comes with it. To truly cherish the things that are important to us, we must first discard those that have outlived their purpose.

Marie Kondo says it the best, ‘Through the process of selecting only those things that inspire joy, you can identify precisely what you love and what you need’.
